Eric is the Director and Principal Investigator at Lance Ecological Research Laboratory (LERL), a dedicated 501(c)(3) non-profit organization focused on local ecological research with a mission to conserve natural ecosystems and popular game species through sound wildlife science and ecological strategies.

Eric's research at LERL primarily focuses on the genetics of Great Lakes mallard populations and the role of hen house nesting structures in propagating the genetic introgression of game farm mallard genetics.
He also conducts research on waterfowl and upland game birds, including scientific surveys related to population dynamics, habitat assessments, and game species program management. Eric's academic interests extend to large mammal and predator ecology, with a focus on the role of native vegetative species in influencing habitat interactions and population health.Professionally, Eric's main focus is the proper management of habitat to offset the social impacts of negative human-wildlife interactions. Throughout his career, he has performed hundreds of projects managing and restoring diverse habitat types, from early-successional and grassland habitats to forest resource improvements. Additionally, Eric has conducted numerous avian and general wildlife surveys to monitor the impacts of species prior to the implementation of projects such as wind turbine farms. Under his leadership, LERL partners with Kent State University and local non-profits like Delta Waterfowl and Ducks Unlimited to advance conservation efforts.
