ABOUT THE LAB

The Lance Ecological Research Laboratory (The Lance Ecology Lab) was created with the mission to advance the fields of ecology and conservation through comprehensive research on wildlife ecology. Our focus spans a broad array of critical topics, including habitat-species interactions, predator-prey dynamics, and the management of wildlife populations, with a special emphasis on waterfowl, upland game birds, and white-tailed deer. By investigating the multi-scale processes that influence animal populations, from individual physiology to meta-population dynamics, we strive to gain a deeper understanding of the complex interactions within natural ecosystems.

Our research methodology integrates genetics and field conservation practices, aiming to uncover the genetic intricacies and behavioral patterns that contribute to the resilience and population dynamics of these species. This approach allows us to evaluate and enhance land and habitat management strategies, promoting the health and biodiversity of wildlife. Additionally, our lab is dedicated to developing and implementing practical solutions to management challenges, grounded in a comprehensive understanding of both ecological science and stakeholder values.

We maintain a robust outreach program to foster effective communication between scientists, policy-makers, and the public, ensuring that our findings contribute to informed wildlife management and policy decisions. Join us in our commitment to building a sustainable future for wildlife and their habitats, through objective research that bridges the gap between genetic insights and conservation efforts.
